I thought this week I’d take a few moments to tell you about the story of Gutter-Vac.
Before Gutter-Vac, I was a plumber with my own plumbing business based in Bundaberg. I was constantly being asked to clean household gutters as a part of my service. It was a job that I dreaded because the only way to clean the gutters was by hand. It was a dirty job, ineffective and very time consuming.
I decided to look around and see if there was some sort of equipment available to help me complete the job. There wasn’t much and anything remotely like what I needed was pretty crude and probably wouldn’t have worked anyway.
I went to a couple of local engineers and we began a two year journey of research and development to produce a workable and effective vacuum system that would enable me to clean gutters. During this time, I also started to develop the systems and procedures which was the starting of the Gutter-Vac franchise system.
On one hand this feels like it was just yesterday, on the other hand it feels like a hundred years ago. It was in fact just 20 years ago that the Gutter-Vac system was created to effectively clean gutters and to also provide a great business for franchisees.
We are now the largest gutter vacuuming network in the world, operating in seven Australian States and Territories and we have recently launched in the USA (under the Outback GutterVac brand) with the first licensees joining this month.
The gutter vacuuming industry is still in its infancy and I just see a massive opportunity for people to jump on board with us at Gutter-Vac because we still have a lot more gutters to clean around the world.
