Merry Christmas & Office Closures

Merry Christmas!  Yes, it is finally here.  Most years everyone can’t believe Christmas has come around again so fast, but I think this year, everyone is pleased to see Christmas and say good bye to 2020.  What a challenging year it has been with COVID, but at the same time, another rewarding year for us at Gutter-Vac as we look after both our residential and commercial customers and their properties.

Our Head Office will be closing on Wednesday 23rd December at 5pm and we will reopen on Monday 4th January.  The franchisees often take an extra week in January, but if you call our 1300 654 253 number it will still be answered and your details passed on or you can always contact the franchisees directly (find their details on their location page on the website) or simply put in a Request a Quote form on the website and they will be in touch.

We want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.  We also want to say thank you for your continued use of the Gutter-Vac services.  Each and every one of our franchisees are a local small business owner and we all know that moving into 2021, we need to get behind our local small businesses so thank you for supporting ours.

Here’s to hopefully a great 2021!

Stress Free Christmas Tips

Christmas can be one of the most stressful times of the year with lots going on, lots of people coming and going, plus finding that perfect gift for a loved one, but what can we do to make life a little less stressful at this time so that we can also enjoy this festive time!

Here’s 5 of our top tips….

Tip #1 – Preparation

Being prepared is a must for any time you are about to go into a stressful time.  If you were to take an overseas holiday (ok, maybe not this year!) how long would you spend in preparation and planning to make it the best trip ever?  You would never turn up to the airport on the day of departure and then decide where you want to go.  We spend so much time, yet when it comes to Christmas, we often leave things to the last minute.

Be like Santa…. Make a list and check it twice!  Being prepared and organised will massively reduce stress levels.

Tip #2 – Remember

Remember what this time of year is actually all about for you and your family.  Is it all about having the perfect lunch with all the trimmings, or is it about laughing and spending time with your family.  Maybe it is time to throw out your traditions if they are stressing you out.  Maybe you don’t need 4 different roasts, maybe just one would be enough to provide a great meal that allows everyone to spend time with each other.  Maybe it is time to do what is ‘right’ for you and your family, rather than what is ‘expected’ of us at this time of year.

What sort of Christmas do you want and then plan the day to allow that to happen.

Tip #3 – Budget

This budget tip actually fits in with tip #1 and #2 because you need to be prepared and also remember what it is you want to achieve.  Make a list and set a budget for things such as presents so that you don’t end up having a “budget hangover” in January from overspending at Christmas.  Maybe this is the year to make gifts for family and friends.  What would be a thoughtful gift rather than just an expensive gift.

Tip #4 – Care

A busy and stressful time can also mean that you may not look after yourself.  Watch how much you eat and drink during this festive season…. Yes we really just said that!  Make sure you are getting enough sleep and that you take a little time out for yourself.  For a time that should be a great time to spend with your family and rest and recover going into the new year, we often do the opposite and wear ourselves out.  Now, don’t get us wrong, if you want to go to parties and spend time with friends and extended family, then that is great!  But if you find yourself getting particularly stressed over this time, then take a little time out for you.

Tip #5 – Fun

Make sure you have some fun this year over the festive season.  A good laugh, lots of chats and spending time with your family (well the ones you like!) can be great for your soul.  Often times we go into a busy time of the year assuming it will be stressful and guess what, we make it stressful.  What if you decided this year instead of stressful you made it fun?  It can happen, but you need to decide that that’s how it will happen!  Prepare for fun rather than stress.

We hope that this is a great little reminder for the coming weeks to not make this time of year stressful, but instead enjoy this time.  We are wishing you a very Merry …. And stress free…. Christmas!

Our 3 favourite Christmas Recipes – no actual cooking required!!

Christmas is just around the corner !  We know…. It comes around so fast each and every year.  Coming into Christmas it is always fun to cook up some treats (or in this case, no cooking) and have them ready for those guests that drop by….. or maybe for your local Gutter-Vac franchisee when they come by to clean your gutters J

Here’s three of our favourites – simple and easy and ones that even the kids can help with and will love to eat !

White Oreo Fudge

Bring a little Christmas ‘snow’ into your treats with this absolutely delicious treat that will last about a week (refrigerated) … not that we have ever tested that out because it never lasts that long in our houses!  PLUS it is simple to make and only 3 ingredients.

  • 400 g white chocolate buttons
  • 1 x 397g tin of sweetened condensed milk
  • 14 Oreo cookies – crushed (Tip – put in a plastic freezer bag and then roll over/crush with a rolling pin)

You will need a baking tray – a square works well (25 x 25 cm) or similar.  We have even used a deep cookie sheet tray. Thinner fudge, but more pieces !

Instructions:

  • Line baking tray with baking paper
  • Put white chocolate in heatproof bowl and pour in condensed milk
  • Microwave on full power for 30 seconds.  Remove and stir.  Continue to heat in short bursts (15 – 20 seconds), stirring in between until chocolate has melted and mixture is thick and smooth
  • Mix in the crushed Oreos… if you want, you could leave some Oreos out to add as a topping, but we like to mix them all in.
  • Spread the mixture evenly in the baking tray, spread it out.
  • If you did save some Oreos for topping, sprinkle them over the mixture now.
  • Place the baking tray and mixture into the fridge for about 4 to 5 hours to set (yes, we know the wait will be hard!)
  • Remove the mixture when set.  Use the baking paper to remove the fudge from the tray and place on a chopping board.
  • Use a sharp knife (run under hot water and wipe dry – makes cutting easier if having trouble) and cut fudge into bite-sized pieces (and yes, there are no calories in eating the little off cuts or edges when cutting up the fudge)
  • Time to SERVE and EAT !!  Your kids will love it!

Kid Friendly Rumballs

  • 250 g of Arnott’s Milk Arrowroots or Arnott’s Marie biscuits (crushed)
  • 1 tin of sweetened condensed milk (395g)
  • ¼ cup of cocoa powder (25g)
  • 1 cup of desiccated coconut (85 g)
  • 1 ½ cups of desiccated coconut (130g) for rolling

Instructions:

  • Crush biscuits to a fine crumb
  • Stir through cocoa powder, desiccated coconut (1 cup) and sweetened condensed mil until well coated
  • Using your hands, roll heaped teaspoon of the mixture into balls and then roll through the extra coconut to coat
  • Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks or you can freeze so you have ready in advance

** Adult extra…. Add a little (or a lot of) rum to the mixture !

Snowmen Pops

  • 375 g white chocolate buttons
  • 2 tsp vegetable oil
  • 250 g white marshmallows
  • 1 packet of M&M’s or Smarties (maybe some extras to eat!)
  • Some licorice
  • Packet of skewer sticks

Instructions:

  • Thread three marshmallows onto each skewer
  • Melt chocolate in heatproof bowl (place in oven on high for 20 seconds, remove and stir.  Continue to do short blasts of heating – 15 to 20 seconds, sitr in bwtween until chocolate is melted)
  • Stir the vegetable oil into the chocolate mixture until smooth
  • Dip the marshmallows into the chocolate to coat.
  • Stand to allow the excess chocolate to drip away and to dress
  • Before the chocolate completely sets, decorate by adding M&M’s or smarties for eyes, nose, buttons and use small pieces of licorice for the mouths.  Let eh kids be creative
  • Will be surprised if they last longer than the time they take to make!

So get the kids in the kitchen and let them have some fun doing some “Christmas Cooking”.
