Don’t wait until the end of the season

Many people think that it will save them money by waiting until the end of Autumn to get their gutters cleaned.  They believe that they may as well wait until all of the leaves have dropped and that they have ‘plenty of time’ to get their gutters cleaned before the wet, winter months.

Sure, this is one way you can look at it and a totally reasonable way too.  The challenge is if your gutters get full or blocked and the rain starts early (because it does rain before Winter!).

In Australia, it is not really a seasonal thing to have your gutters cleaned.  They need to be cleaned all year round.  The biggest thing we find when people leave their gutters until all the leaves have fallen, is that they may not have been empty prior to the leaves falling.  Imagine your gutters already have debris in them and then you have the Autumn falling leaves to finish off the job.  This is where the problem happens because we then get a heavy downpour of rain and because of the amount of debris in your gutters, instead of the water flowing through the gutters, into the downpipes, the debris diverts the water over the gutter or more likely, back into your house and into the ceiling cavity to cause chaos in your home.

So whilst many believe they are saving money to wait until the leaves have completed falling, they are in fact running the risk of it costing a lot more money by taking the chance that their gutters won’t overflow, even though they are already full or almost full of debris.
