The story of Andrew and Harley Luke is one of real family success. When Andrew joined the Gutter-Vac brand back in 2007, he didn’t just want to start a business. He wanted to find better lifestyle balance, build strong community connections, and deliver services he was genuinely proud of.
Harley’s journey was much more organic. He grew up watching his dad run the business and eventually stepped in himself. “I’ve been working with him since I was able to get on a roof—safely!” he jokes. Some jobs stick with them more than others. Andrew’s toughest experience was a massive school in Broadmeadows with 3,500 metres of gutters and boxed gutters. It took him a full seven days and produced more than 1.5 tonnes of debris. On the final Sunday, exhausted and dealing with constant blockages, he found himself close to tears, wondering what he had gotten himself into. For Harley, the hardest part wasn’t the gutters themselves but navigating his first year working with a commercial customer. The work was hot, demanding, and a steep learning curve.
In both territories, customers mostly want one thing: gutter cleaning. It’s by far the most common request, and while people occasionally ask about gutter replacement, Andrew and Harley focus solely on cleaning and maintenance, referring those bigger jobs to specialists. Blocked gutters, gutters holding water, and general roof debris remain consistent issues across the region.
What keeps them motivated is the local community. Andrew loves how easy it is to relate to customers across Central Victoria, especially with the down‑to‑earth lifestyle and friendly attitudes. Harley agrees, saying the people he meets every day are the best part of running the business and what makes the job meaningful.
Both Andrew and Harley enjoy pressure washing more than ever, thanks to the instant, satisfying results. They also take pride in completing large commercial jobs, where the quality of their workmanship really shines through and the whole team gets to showcase what they can do. As the saying goes, teamwork makes the dream work.
Looking ahead to 2026, Andrew is preparing for changes in commercial contracts, focusing on growing Moonee Valley, and using social media more strategically to connect with customers. Harley is excited about working closely with his sister, who has joined the business as an administration assistant—and he’s also looking forward to fitting in more outdoor adventures when he can.
