5 Reasons Why You Should Get a Gutter Guard Installed

You certainly need a gutter to keep water from entering your roof, basement, and house. But why does it need a guard?

You might think a gutter guard is just one of those expenses that you could do without.

Well, we’ve got not one, but five reasons to convince you otherwise. Read on!

  1. Keep Debris Out of the Gutters

Gutter guards will prevent your gutters from getting clogged up with twigs, leaves, pine needles, and other debris. You do not have to spend your weekend cleaning the gutter anymore!

  1. Protection for Your Home

Here are some ways that a gutter guard protects your home.

Mold and Mildew

The moisture and organic waste in your gutter provide the perfect environment for mold to thrive.

With less debris clogging up your gutters, the chances of mold or mildew growing in the gutters and your house are reduced.

Not only do mold and mildew seep into your roof but also your basement and, eventually, the air. Leaving mildew to grow in your house is risking the respiratory health of your family, especially those prone to allergies and asthma.

Water Spills

Not installing gutter guards often leads to water spills, which cause roof and wall damage. Water spills after accumulating in your gutters due to clogged debris, but it’s not the spill that’s a cause of worry.

All the water that’s accumulating or spilling onto your roof can lead to rust damage. Now that’s a bigger repair and much costlier than installing a gutter guard.

Without a gutter guard, it’s not just the integrity of your gutters at stake but also that of your house.

  1. Prevent Fires

Several leaves and twigs from those neighbouring trees end up in your gutters. Stuck long enough, this debris tends to dry up and become the perfect setup for a wildfire.

Yes, that’s what happens when some lighted embers enter your open gutters.

One way to prevent this catastrophe?

Keep the debris and the lighted embers from entering your gutters with the help of a gutter guard.

  1. Pest Control

Open gutters are an attractive sight for pests and a breeding spot for insects.

Open gutters are also the reason why you haven’t been able to get those pests out of your backyard.

Think of it, an open gutter is a perfect spot for pests with the accumulation of debris, dirt, and water. Once the debris clogs up the gutter, it becomes a safe place for the insects to lay their eggs. Any place that is a breeding ground for pests becomes a hunting ground for wild animals.

You wouldn’t want to risk your life by cleaning those gutters yourself, would you?

  1. Save Money on Maintenance and Repair

Gutter guards reduce the amount of debris entering your gutters. By keeping your gutters clean, you’re also ensuring they function optimally for a long time. This reduces the costs of gutter maintenance and repair.

Clogged gutters can weaken the integrity of your gutters, causing them to rust, and eventually cost you all your savings.

Why worry about such problems when you can easily prevent them by installing gutter guards?

If you’re getting them installed this season, then who better to call than Gutter-Vac?

Our expert team will install the right gutter guard for your house so you’re not busy booking maintenance services for a long time.

Why You Should Get Your Gutters Cleaned This Holiday Season

Apart from getting them to look great to start the New Year, cleaning your gutter can also protect your property from damage in the long run.

Want more reasons to convince you to get your gutters cleaned this holiday season?

Here are a few to consider.

Avoid Unexpected Repairs During The Holidays

Unclean gutters can overspill, clog with debris, rust, or leak. They may also get structurally damaged because of all the load the debris is putting on them.

A water spill can also damage the foundation of your house by seeping into the walls.

Now that could lead to a nasty surprise during the holidays. And we think the only kind of surprise you should be getting this holiday season is a surprise gift. After all, you don’t want to be the one stuck taking care of gutter repairs, missing out on all the festivities.

Plan the cleaning work now so it’s out of your way for the holiday season.

Protect Your House From Fires

Christmas, summer school holidays, camping, and bushfire season are all synonymous with the holiday season.

Most holiday season occurrences aren’t dangerous, but some certainly are. Bushfires can start with no human intervention. All it takes is some source of fuel and enough dry vegetation. The former is sitting in your gutter in the form of those dry leaves and twigs.

Clear them out now to protect your home from fire damage.

Enjoy the Holiday Season

It’s the time of the year to get out and enjoy the weather and festivities. Don’t you need your outdoors to be clean and safe for your family to roam around freely?

Dirty and clogged gutters will cause the water gushing through them to spill over to the roof and outer walls. This creates water puddles at the bottom of the wall. These puddles can, in turn, seep into the basement and breed mosquitoes.

Thinking of attaching exterior Christmas lights on the gutters?

Consider cleaning your gutters first.

Prepare for Autumn

By the time you’re done enjoying the holidays and taking down those decorations, fall will come around. And with it, an inflow of leaves that make their way to your gutters.

If your gutters are already full of debris, this addition can clog them up for good.

Want to avoid such a mess?

Clean your gutters now and rest up for the next two seasons straight!

Cleaning your gutters all by yourself is a risky task and one you don’t want to undertake right before the holidays. There’s a lot more you need to do inside the house as well.

8 Ways to Prevent Falling Leaves From Entering Your Gutter

Congested gutters can affect water drainage while posing other serious issues like rust, water damage, and pests. However, with a few simple measures like the ones we share here, you can easily keep your gutters clean and leaf-free.

#1. Trim The Trees

If you have trees surrounding your house, the best way to keep its leaves from falling into your gutter and creating an obstruction is to trim them regularly. Branches and limbs that hang over your gutters should be adequately trimmed so nothing falls into them.

#2. Regular Cleaning

Unless you regularly clean your gutters, none of your efforts will do you any good. To clean your gutters, you can use a leaf blower which takes very little time and will help you avoid significant build-up. This lets you reduce the time you need to clean them while saving yourself from buying more expensive tools to perform the same task

#3. Install A Leaf Catcher

Picking up the leaves by yourself can be a good workout but an even better solution is installing a leaf catcher. It helps with the accumulation of leaves by preventing them from falling inside your gutters.

You can attach it to the downpipes and easily remove the collected leaves with your hands.

#4. Get an All-in-One Gutter System

If you have a traditional gutter system at your house, chances are high that you’ll often have to deal with clogged gutters. This is where an all-in-one gutter system can come to the rescue. It comes with a pre-installed cap that keeps the debris from entering the gutter. The only drawback is it is one of the more expensive solutions.

#5. Install Gutter Guards

A gutter guard prevents leaves from blocking your gutters. They’re installed on top of your gutter to prevent debris from falling inside it. There are different types and materials so make sure you look at which kind works best for you to ensure you get the functionality you need.

#6. Install Foam Filters

A foam filter helps keep large debris away from your gutters. Though they’re easy to install and inexpensive, filters don’t last that long will need to be replaced every two to three years.

#7. Install Gutter Screens

Whether you go for a plastic gutter screen or a mesh gutter screen guard, these installations make cleaning easier. They are straightforward to install and can easily collect large debris like leaves and twigs.

#8. Seek Professional Help

Would you rather do away with the trouble of cleaning and maintaining your gutters? A sure-fire solution is reaching out to specialists like Gutter-Vac, a professional gutter cleaning service company. Gutter-Vac has the know-how and experience for dealing with all types of roofs and gutters. They employ their own gutter vacuum and system that offers high standards of safety, value, and convenience.

5 Incredible Ways To Keep Insects Out of Your Gutters

‘Tis the season for beautiful spring trees, crisp air, delicious holiday meals, and family gatherings. With all that goes on at the end of the year, it’s so easy to conveniently forget that our gutters may need some attention too.

While most of our efforts at maintaining our gutters are directed towards keeping and cleaning fallen leaves from them, many nasty critters can find their way into our gutters and make them their home.

Why is it important to keep insects away from our gutters? Infestations can lead to many issues like clogged gutters, blockages, drainage issues, and more. To avoid this, you need to regularly clean and maintain your gutter.

If having insects in your gutters is a concern of yours, then you’re in the right place. In this article, we talk about 5 incredible ways you can keep insects and other creatures away from your gutters.

#1. Regular Cleaning

There’s no avoiding the need to regularly clean your gutters. Invest in a good broom and clean your gutters frequently to prevent build-us. Since insects thrive on moisture, ensure that your gutters have a chance to thoroughly dry after cleaning.

Pests and insects generally feast on trash and dirt. As long as your gutters are spick-and-span, they should be free from any unwanted guests.

#2. Fix the Cracks

Insects like cockroaches, mosquitoes, ants, spiders, and termites use every crack and crevice that they can crawl into to create a nest inside your gutters. In addition, cracks provide an entry point for litter and waste to accumulate.

To address these issues, cover the bigger holes with metal patches and the smaller holes and openings with heavy-duty sealants.

#3. Install Gutter Screens

Gutter screens are engineered to act as a barrier between your gutter and insects that have can settle inside your gutters. If you don’t have the time or the inclination to clean your gutters frequently, you can install gutter screens as it makes gutters resistant to insects, depriving them of ways of getting in.

Gutter screens come in a variety of types and materials. Depending on your needs and preferences, you can opt for plastic screens, steel screens, perforated aluminium screens, and more.

#4. Get Gutter Guards Installed

Gutter guards reduce the amount of stagnant water inside your gutter. The less stagnant water your gutter has, the less likely it is for mosquitoes, mice, bugs, and other creepy crawlies to get inside.

A gutter guard can also help you prevent clogged gutters. When insects are trying to escape into the gutter, they will instead get caught by the gutter guards which you can easily clean off later.

#5. Ask For Help

Insects mostly go unnoticed but they can cause a myriad of problems and unhygienic conditions. Stress Free Christmas tips

Christmas can be one of the most stressful times of the year with lots going on, lots of people coming and going and plus finding that perfect gift for a loved one. But, what can we do to make life a little less stressful at this time to enjoy this festive time!

Here are 3 of our top tips….

 Tip #1 – Preparation
Being prepared is a must for any time you are about to go into a stressful time. If you were to take an overseas holiday (ok, maybe not this year!), how long would you spend preparing and planning to make it the best trip ever? You would never turn up at the airport and then decide where you want to go. We spend so much time, yet we often leave things to the last minute when it comes to Christmas. Be like Santa…. Make a list and check it twice! Being prepared and organised will massively reduce stress levels.

 Tip #2 – Remember
Remember what this time of year is actually all about for you and your family. Is it all about having the perfect lunch with all the trimmings, or is it about laughing and spending time with your family? Maybe it is time to throw out your traditions if they are stressing you out. Perhaps you don’t need 4 different roasts; maybe just one would be enough to provide a great meal that allows everyone to spend time with each other. Is it time to do what is right for your family, rather than what is expected of us? Decide what sort of Christmas you want, and then plan the day to allow that to happen.

 Tip #3 – Care
A busy and stressful time can also mean that you may not be looking after yourself. Watch how much you eat and drink during this festive season…. Yes, we really just said that! Make sure you are getting enough sleep and take a little time out for yourself. For a time that should be a great time to spend with your family and rest and recover going into the new year, we often do the opposite and wear ourselves out. Now, don’t get us wrong, if you want to go to parties and spend time with friends and extended family, that is great! But if you find yourself getting stressed, particularly over this time, then take a little time out for yourself. We hope that this is a great little reminder for the coming weeks to not make this time of year stressful but instead enjoy this time. We are wishing you a very Merry …. And stress-free…. Christmas!

5 Important Gutter Maintenance Tips For the Summer Months

Ah, summer! The bright summer skies also bring the storms here in Queensland. Make sure to get your gutters checked, cleaned, and storm-ready.

Unsure of where to start? Here’s everything you need to get done:

Inspect For Mould

You can find a lot more in a gutter system than creepy crawlies. Seams, holes for supporting screws, overlapping gutter segments are all perfect places for mould.

While the cooler months might not be conducive to mould growth, ever-increasing summer heat and stagnant water in rain gutters is the perfect growing environment.

Don’t tackle mould by yourself—a facemask isn’t going to keep you safe, and water flushing isn’t going to prevent the mould from returning. Call the experts to clean and bleach your rain gutter systems.

Check for Nests

Before you snap on your gloves and stick your hand into a rain gutter, do a cursory check for nests—birds, spiders, rodents and wasps are just a few creatures that love to nest in rain gutters. And the last thing you want is to be bitten or stung.

Remove Debris and Clean Your Gutters

Only use the blow-flush hack if your gutters are barely dirty. Don’t know what that is? Many people find it less cringe-worthy to use a leaf blower to remove light, dry debris from their rain gutters. Then they use a garden hose to flush the gutters with plenty of water.

While it sounds simple, it isn’t. So please remember to use quality gloves, tools, and other equipment like a ladder to ensure maximum safety. Stay away from electricals if you’re using water, and call a friend, neighbour, or family member to watch over in case of an emergency.

If you find that your rain gutters are full of debris that no amount of blowing and flushing can remove, call Gutter-Vac. We’ll take care of it for you within the shortest time possible with the least inconvenience to you!

Inspect The Downspout

Downspouts are the trickier areas of rain gutter systems, and they tend to get clogged just like kitchen or bathroom plumbing—no amount of flushing will help. You need a professional.

Call Gutter-Vac for an appointment today—we do a thorough inspection of your gutters, roof, and downspout. And should we spot an issue, our team is more than capable of handling these, so you don’t have to call in a professional repair service.

Install New Gutters (Or Replace Old Parts)

Do you have an old gutter system that’s been troubling you? Or would you like to explore seamless gutter systems to prevent mould? Happy with your current set-up but need an add on? How about gutter guards to keep debris and rodents out of your rain gutters?

Whether it is a simple gutter cleaning service or a complex, full-scale replacement of your gutters, Gutter-Vac covers it all.

‘Lifestyle, and then business’ – How Phil built a thriving business around his passions

Phil Brandolini considers himself a savvy businessman who has set himself up for a comfortable future using a couple digital tricks that he has learnt during his time working in marketing.

In spite of being mostly a one-man team with a single trailer, Phil has tripled the annual revenue of the Northern Rivers business since taking it over from the previous owner in June of 2020.

Every Gutter-Vac franchisee has their own different ways to generate their own success, usually boiling down to the relationships they build within their communities. Phil has played to his strengths in using his digital knowledge to expand his business.

“I don’t think you can sit back and just think it is going to happen. You need to put yourself out there,” said Phil.

Phil’s way of ‘putting himself out there’ has been to revamp his online Google Ads, verify his business online, use SEO to increase traffic and being as responsive as he can to his customers.

“A simple templated text is sometimes all I can manage when I am up on a roof, but it covers off the bases and 90% of the time I get a new job from it without even talking to people,” Phil said.

“Of course, how you keep a job depends on keeping a good relationship, and that is when I will give them a call or drop them an email.

“Taking the time to have a quick chat before the job is a great way to build trust and make sure that the customer feels comfortable.”

Phil has made a name for himself and his business, and he thanks his use of digital ads and automations which are now generating a lot of buzz around his work. There’s always work to be done, it’s about making sure your business is visible to those who need it.

Now Phil is at the point where he’s even having to turn away some jobs because he has that much work coming in.

While keeping him on his toes, what Phil values most about his business is the flexibility that it offers.

“For a lifestyle business, you can work as much or as little as you want,” said Phil.

“As far as lifestyle businesses go, my partner and I had looked at a heap before buying our Gutter-Vac franchise.

“One business claimed to be the busiest hairdresser in New South Wales, but was really only taking $30,000 at the end of the year after products, expenses and wages.

“If I wanted to make $50,000, I could do that in my sleep with my Gutter-Vac franchise working only one day a week.”

Currently, he works three to four days a week, so he has time for things that are important to him. One of these things is playing guitar in his band, The Billy Gudeon Band.

“There is no stress in this work. It is so flexible, and you only have to work two or three days a week to be raking it in,” said Phil.

6 Signs Your Gutters Need to Be Cleaned Professionally

It is easy to forget about regular gutter maintenance.

But, did you know clogged gutters could lead to property damage as well as health risks for your family?

It is important to clean your gutters regularly. If you’re wondering when it might be time for a clean, take note of the warning signs that we look out for:

  1. Slippery Surfaces Around the House

When your gutters are clogged, they will slow down the water from flowing down the drain. Often the water starts to pool in the gutters and overflows over the sides. This results in water pools near the exterior of your house.

Fixing this can be an absolute nightmare without the right experience and training – and is a pretty late-stage issue. If you see these puddles, call a professional right away.

  1. Pests Near the Roof

A clogged gutter is a cozy place for little critters to take up residence. Clogged gutters can accumulate a lot of filth which then attracts pests and birds who feed on them.

However, pests big or small can be dangerous – many are carriers of serious diseases and parasites. That is why the job is best left to a trained professional.

  1. Leakages, Mildew, and Staining

Have you found stains or mildew around the outer walls of your house? It might mean a leaking gutter. Water is either leaking from your gutter or overflowing from a clogged gutter. Either way, your gutter needs to be cleaned and repaired.

Mildew and leakages can be dangerous to work around if you don’t take the right precautions – so make sure to hire someone who knows what they’re doing.

  1. Sagging, Pulling, or Detached Gutters

Other signs of clogged gutters are pulling, sagging, or detached gutters – in these cases, you’ll want to get them cleaned, or even replaced if necessary.

Before your gutter gets damaged further and hurts someone in the process, get your gutters checked out by a professional.

  1. Accumulating Debris

During certain months of the year, you might find a bunch of damp leaves, dirt, and bits of foliage stuck around your gutters – this serves as prime real estate for harmful microorganisms and is the tell-tale sign of a compromised gutter.

While you may be able to get the surface level debris out of the way, the gunk buildup within requires a pro cleaner’s skills to get the job done.

  1. Overgrowth in the Gutter

It is quite easy for plants to grow where water and dirt are present. Growing plants in your backyard might be your hobby, but growing them in your gutter isn’t. Plants in the gutter are a sign your gutters are unclean and clogged.

Get them cleaned before they grow through the pipes or walls, causing lasting structural damage to your home.

Not sure when you last cleaned your gutters? That is also another sign that it’s time to call in a professional. It is not safe to clean a clogged gutter by yourself. Prevent any mishaps and call our professional team.

At Gutter-Vac, we have been offering the best gutter cleaning services for the last 20 years! Our service comes with a guarantee of quality, safety, and affordability.
